Clinton Campaign Disenfranchising Black Voters? (The Sequel)

This time it's not just black voters who may be losing their chance to vote in this Democratic primary, but Obama supporters of all races and creeds. 1.1 million voters have been purged from the Indiana voter registration rolls, and while it's not unusual to clean up the rolls prior to an election, this constitutes a quarter of all registered voters in the state.

That aside, it seems as if nearly a quarter of the voters purged come from two counties in the northwest of the state. Coincidentally (or perhaps not) this portion of the Hoosier state is in the Chicago media market, and is therefore expected to be familiar with and vote heavily for Barack Obama. Lake county has one of the largest African American populations in the country and nearby Porter county has a large college population.

There also seems to be a problem with the voting machines, specifically some of the machines have been proven faulty, are not certified, and are being used anyway. Current polling averages show Clinton up by low single-digits in Indiana, just like in Pennsylvania. If there are any surprises then there had better be a serious investigation into both the registered voter purge and the use of uncertified machines.

In fact, towards the end of the initial Pennsylvania vote tally MSNBC's Chuck Todd said that he expected Clinton's then-eight-point-lead to drop slightly as the remaining districts reported because most of those remaining districts were Philadelphia suburbs where exit polls showed Obama in the lead. Yet, what actually happened is that Hillary gained nearly two points after those districts reported in.

Now, maybe MSNBC's information was wrong, but considering how Obama's supporters seem to have been targeted in North Carolina and elsewhere with suspicious phone calls that have been traced back to Clinton supporters, and now we have an enormous voter purge in Indiana that largely affects Hoosiers expected to vote Obama, any unexpected results should trigger not only investigation into these matters, but also looking for similar patterns in the Pennsylvania primary and other states.

  1. […] and while that seems only fair in one respect, the fact remains that in the one case the areas targeted were expected to vote heavily for Obama and in the other the board of the group responsible was packed with Clinton associates. We can […]
