Media, Hillary: Lying on Resume “Only Human”

What is going on with this nation's media? If someone has a Reverend that occasionally says outrageous things, disagreeing with them isn't enough — we expect a candidate to move to a different Church?  Yet, when a candidate deliberately lies about their qualifications for the job of President of the United States we're supposed to give them a pass because they're "only human"?

And let's be clear: Hillary lied deliberately. She used clear language to tell a tall-tale about being "under sniper fire", having "no greeting ceremony" and running "with our heads down" to get to the vehicles. A reporter asked her if that was accurate and she told the same story all over again and adding, "Now that is what happened". She then went on to tell that story to crowds in at least two other stops on her campaign trail, winning sympathy and admiration for her bravery and experience.

Yet the story is absolutely false. She was on the trip with singer Cheryl Crow and comedian Sinbad, when Sinbad was asked about Hillary's account he said he didn't remember it happening that way and that the most scared he was the entire trip was wondering where he was going to eat next. When reporters asked Hillary about this apparent discrepency Hillary yet again stuck by her story and dismissed Sinbad's account because "he's a comedian".

Hillary & BarackBut then stock footage was dug up from the event itself. Now we could see with our own eyes what actually happened, and none of Hillary's story seemed to be true. There was no rush to get out of the plane. There was no running to the cars. There was a greeting ceremony — with a bunch of young kids on the tarmac, no less. No danger to be seen — and there was Hillary through it all, walking calmly, smiling and waving.
So a story that she told on multiple occasions, a story that she had adamantly defended under questioning not once but twice, was completely false. Hillary's explanation? She misspoke. She made a misstatement. Her most audacious response: "I'm only human, which may come as a surprise to some of you," as if it's our impossibly high standards that are the problem, not her lying.

Endeavoring to be fair, it's possible she didn't lie deliberately. Newsweek reported that Hillary's story had grown with the telling, and hypothesizes that she had come to believe they were true. If that's the case then is that any better? Frankly I would rather have a President who lies through their teeth but is competent than a President who doesn't have a firm grip on reality.

But Wolf Blitzer echoed Hillary's cry on CNN yesterday, "Well, she's only human…" and that seemed to be a theme throughout the media. I don't know whether they're all die-hard Hillary supporters or if they're trying to prolong this battle for entertainment/ratings purposes but from where I'm sitting one of those two explanations must be correct because I can't think of another reason to give this woman a pass for telling, repeating and defending lies about her Presidential qualifications while they continue to slice away at Obama for not burning an old man at the stake for having some outrageous opinions.

PS: Obama's March 18th speech on race was lauded by Newspapers across the country as one of the greatest speeches by a President or Presidential Candidate of all time. They compared it to speeches by Kennedy and Roosevelt. After watching it I understand why. It is the first time anyone has ever spoken to a national audience in this country so clearly and honestly about race in a way that all sides can really connect with. The televised media largely ignored the subject matter, latched onto the part where Obama denounced Rev. Wright's words but didn't disown the man himself, and played Rev. Wright tapes for the next four days. To them I say this:
Shame on you for polarizing this country further and shaping the conversation in this infantile manner. Shame on you for holding one candidate responsible for someone else's words while offering forgiveness to the candidate that clearly and deliberately lied to the American people about their presidential qualifications. Shame. on. you.
… and that's all I have to say about that.
